Rochester, NY: Below is the 2013 Semifinalist Watch List for the James D. Ulrich Award (College Male Athlete of the Year - non-Division 1 Schools).

The members of 10 person watch list come from seven colleges and universities. The seven athletes on the Also Mentioned list come from five schools. Between the two lists, seven colleges and universities are represented.

Buffalo State has the most members on the watch list with three (with two on the Also Mentioned list). The Cortland State also has two on the watch list and two on the Also Mentioned list.

This version of the watch list reflects the performances up through 25 May 2013 and takes into account the announcement results of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships that were held 23-25 May 2013 in the Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, La Crosse, WI.

The finalists for this award will be determined from this watch list.

The list of finalists for each of the annual awards will be announced in mid-July. The public vote on the finalists begins on 17 July 2013 and ends on 14 August 2013.

The award winners will be announced at the 2013 Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Awards Banquet, to be held on 07 September 2013 at the RIT Inn & Conference Center in Rochester, NY.

Cody Amengual, Cortland State

All-American in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:07.36) after finishing in 6th place at the National Outdoor Championships. Finished ninth at the 2013 ECAC Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 meter run (3:54.60 PB) Finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run (3:57.65) and fifth in the 800 meter run (1:63.61 PB) at the 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Championships. Won his heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:57.54) the Penn Relays with a nation leading time when run. Member of the 2013 ECAC D III Indoor Champion DMR (10:04.82) team. Also finished fourth in the 800 meter run (1:53.85 PB). Member of the 2013 SUNYAC Indoor Champion DMR (10:20.18) team. Also finished second in the mile run (4:16.20).

Sean Bernstein, SUNY Oneonta

Two-time National Outdoor Champion (200 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay) and three time All-American (finished second in the 100 meter dash by .007 seconds) at the National Outdoor Championships. USTFCCA Division III Atlantic Region Male Athlete of the Year USTFCCA Division III National Male Athlete of the Year All-American in the 60 meter dash after finishing in second place at the National Indoor Championships Named DIII Championships' Most Outstanding Male Performer by USTFCCA Two-time 2013 ECAC D III Outdoor Champion (100 meter dash (10.32 (w)) and 4x100 relay (41.59) Three-time 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Champion (100 meter dash (10.54, 10.49 (w) in prelims), 200 meter dash (21.14, 20.97 in prelims), and 4x100 relay (41.22) Indoor All-American after finishing second in the 60 meter dash (6.84) at the 213 NCAA D III Indoor National Championships. Alex Brimstein, Geneseo State

Competed in the 5,000 meter run (14:42.10) at the National Championships. Finished in 11th place. Finished eighth in the 1,500 meter run (3:54.29) at the 2013 ECAC D III Outdoor championships 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Champion in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:17.01). Also finished second in the 5,000 meter run (15:14.85) Set his PB in the 5,000 meter run (14:27.23) at the 2013 Penn Relays All-American indoors as a member, running the anchor leg, of the third place Distance Medley Relay team at the NCAA D III National Indoor Championships. 2013 SUNYAC Indoor Champion in the mile run (4:11.96 PB). Also member of the second place DMR team (10:21.90) All-American for Cross Country after finishing 10th in the NCAA D III National XC Championships 2012 NCAA D III Atlantic Region XC Champion 2012 SUNYAC XC Champion

Cory Cox, Buffalo State

Competed in the 200 meter dash and the long jump at the NCAA D III National Outdoor Championships. Finished in 12th place in the 200 (21.70 (w)) and 10th place in the long jump (7.19m (w)). 2013 ECAC D III Outdoor Champion in the long jump (7.16m (w)) and runner-up in the 200 meter dash (21.52 9w)). Runner-up in the long jump (7.25m (w)) at the 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Championships. Also finished in third place in the 200 meter dash (21.67, ran 21.54 in the prelims) Also All-American indoors in the long jump (7.02) after finishing in eighth place at the National Indoor Championships. 2013 SUNYAC Indoor Champion in the long jump (7.33m PB)

Zach Ferrara, Brockport State

All-American after finishing in second place in the Pole Vault (5.00m Outdoor PB and school record) at the NCAA D III National Outdoor Championships. Runner-up in the pole vault (4.91m) at the 2013 ECAC D III Outdoor Championships 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Champion in the Pole Vault (4.85m) Indoor National Champion in the Pole Vault (5.09m PB, school record) at the NCAA D III National Indoor Championships. Runner-up in the pole vault (4.92m) at the 2013 ECAC D III Indoor Championships 2013 SUNYAC Indoor Champion in the Pole Vault (4.70m) Set school records in the pole vault during the school year (both indoors and outdoors).

Andre Hernandez-Green, Cortland State

Competed in the long jump (7.04m) at the National Outdoor Championships. Finished in 12th place. 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Champion in the long jump (7.30m PB) Finished tenth in the long jump (6.87m) at the 2013 NCAA D III Indoor Championships 2013 ECAC Indoor Champion in the long jump (7.18m)

Bumkoth Jiak, Buffalo State

Competed in the 800 meter run (1:53.10) and the 1,500 meter run (3:54.94) at the National Outdoor Championships. Finished in 15th place in the 800 and 16th place in the 1500. 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Champion in the 1,500 meter run (3:56.13). Also finished second in the 800 meter run (1:52.11) 2013 Bison Open Champion in the 800 meter run (1:51.75 (PB). This performance was second in the nation early in the season. Also finished 18th in the 1,500 meter run (3:50.51 PB). This performance led the nation early in the season.. Competed in the long jump at the National Outdoor Championships but did not place due to three fouls. Two-time 2013 Liberty League Outdoor Champion after winning the long jump (6.96m) and triple jump (14.19m) Two-time 2013NYSCTC Indoor Champion after winning the long jump (7.01m) and triple jump (13.94m) 2013 Liberty League Indoor Champion in the triple jump (14.47m PB) and runner-up in the long jump (6.94m)

Richard Pete, Buffalo State

All-American in the triple jump (14.70m (w)) after finishing in eighth place at the National Outdoor Championships. Finished fourth in the triple jump (14.60m PB) at the 2013 ECAC D III Outdoor Championships. Also finished eighth in the long jump (6.84m) 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Champion in the triple jump (14.50m). About the James D. Ulrich Award

The James D. Ulrich Award, which debuted in 2012, is presented annually by the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame to the outstanding Male College Athlete of the Year from other than NCAA Division I Colleges in or from the Niagara Association.

Oneonta's Sean Bernstein is the reigning winner of the James D. Ulrich Award.

James D. Ulrich, a member of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2011, who is a former head track and field coach at Fredonia State where he coached five NCAA Division 3 National Champions. His teams won the New York State Collegiate Track and Field Conference (NYSCTFC) Men's Track & Field Championship 14 times Indoors and 13 times Outdoors; the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Track & Field Champions 14 times Indoors and 21 times (including 20 consecutive) Outdoors. Ulrich, who is highly decorated, was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year thirteen times, NYSCTFA Coach of the Year eight times, NCAA Division III Regional Coach of the Year five times, and received the SUNYAC Service Award.

About the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Annual Awards

The Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Annual Awards program was developed to bring some well deserved recognition to the outstanding high school and college athletes and teams, and the top high school coach from the Niagara Association. These awards are presented at our annual awards banquet which is held on the Saturday after Labor Day.

The members of the Annual Awards Committee, the Board of Trustees, and the Hall of Fame Selection Committee vote on the finalists for each award. The general public will also cast votes on the finalists for these awards. The votes from the general public will be combined with the votes of the committee members to determine the winner of each award. Public voting will be held online and will run for approximately one month from - mid-July to mid-August of each year.

Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame and Virtual Museum is provisionally chartered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York. The purpose of the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame and Virtual Museum is to recognize those individuals who made significant and outstanding contributions to the Sport of Athletics (including Track & Field, Long Distance Running, Race Walking, and Cross Country Running) while living within the geographic boundaries (New York State West of and including the counties of Oswego, Onondaga, Cortland, and Broome) of the Niagara Association as athletes (including Masters), coaches, and/or administrators (including Competition Officials).
