Pre-NCAA Outdoor Championships Watch List

Rochester, NY: Below is the 2013 Pre-NCAA Outdoor Championships Watch List for the Donald J. Paige Award (College Male Athlete of the Year - Division 1 Schools).

The members of 10 person watch list come from six colleges and universities. The eight athletes on the Also Mentioned list come from five schools. Between the two lists, eight colleges and universities are represented.

Cornell University has the most members on the watch list with four. The Cornell University also has four on the Also Mentioned list.

This version of the watch list reflects the performances up through 01 June 2013 and takes into account the qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held at historic Hayward Field, on the campus of the University of Oregon, Eugene, OR on 05 - 08 June 2013. Seven men have qualified in eight events along with two relay teams for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Stephen Mozia (Cornell University) and Brycen Spratling (University of Pittsburgh) have each qualified in two events. Mozia has qualified in the shot put and discus throw. Spratling has qualified in the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay.

The list of finalists for each of the annual awards will be announced in mid-July. The public vote on the finalists begins on 17 July 2013 and ends on 14 August 2013.

The award winners will be announced at the 2013 Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Awards Banquet, to be held on 07 September 2013 at the RIT Inn & Conference Center in Rochester, NY.

  • Finished sixth in both the 100 meter dash (11.13) and the 200 meter dash (21.33) at the 2013 IC4A Outdoor Championships
  • Three-time 2013 Ivy League Outdoor Champion by winning the 200 meter dash (20.82 (w), ran 20.75 (w) in the prelims), the 400 meter dash (46.60 PB), and the 4x100 meter relay (40.19). Also ran the anchor leg of the second place 4x400 meter relay team (3:13.34).

About the Donald J. Paige Award

The Donald J. Paige Award, which debuted in 2012, is presented annually by the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame to the outstanding NCAA Division 1 College Male Athlete of the Year in or from the Niagara Association.

Syracuse's Jarret Eaton is the reigning winner of the Donald J. Paige Award.

Paige, a member of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2000, who graduated from C.W. Baker High School, Baldwinsville, NY, and Villanova University. He was a member of the 1980 United States Olympic Track and Field Team for 800 meters, and was Pan-American Games Champion at 1500 meters in 1979. He set five World Records two American Records, and one Collegiate Best. Paige is a Two-time USA National Champion Indoors at 1000 yards and a six-time NCAA Champion.

About the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Annual Awards

The Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Annual Awards program was developed to bring some well deserved recognition to the outstanding high school and college athletes and teams, and the top high school coach from the Niagara Association. These awards are presented at our annual awards banquet which is held on the Saturday after Labor Day.

The members of the Annual Awards Committee, the Board of Trustees, and the Hall of Fame Selection Committee vote on the finalists for each award. The general public will also cast votes on the finalists for these awards. The votes from the general public will be combined with the votes of the committee members to determine the winner of each award. Public voting will be held online and will run for approximately one month from - mid-July to mid-August of each year.

About the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame

Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame and Virtual Museum is provisionally chartered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York. The purpose of the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame and Virtual Museum is to recognize those individuals who made significant and outstanding contributions to the Sport of Athletics (including Track & Field, Long Distance Running, Race Walking, and Cross Country Running) while living within the geographic boundaries (New York State West of and including the counties of Oswego, Onondaga, Cortland, and Broome) of the Niagara Association as athletes (including Masters), coaches, and/or administrators (including Competition Officials).
